Sergey Makushyn was born in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, in 1964. He studied at the Kyiv College of Applied Arts (1981–1985), now the Mykhailo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design, and later graduated from the Ivan Fedorov Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute in Lviv (1986–1991), now the Ukrainian Academy of Printing.

Lilia Makushyn was born in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, in 1967. She studied at the Kosiv College of Folk Handicrafts (1984–1987), now the Kosiv College of Applied and Decorative Arts, and graduated from the Lviv National Academy of Arts (1987–1992).

Working as a creative partnership, Sergey and Lilia Makushyn have established a strong presence in both Ukrainian and international art scenes. Since 1986, their works have been presented in numerous national and international exhibitions.

Works are held in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, the United States, Canada, Poland, Germany, Hungary, France, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, and other countries.
