Born in Agra, India, in 1969. Earned a Diploma in Visual Arts (Painting) from the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, in 1993, and a Bachelor of Visual Arts with First Class Honours from the Government College of Art & Craft, University of Calcutta, in 1995.
Samir Sarkar is a contemporary Indian painter known for his landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, and nature-inspired compositions. Working primarily in transparent watercolor on paper and acrylic on canvas, he explores both realistic and abstract approaches, embracing artistic freedom rather than adhering to a single style.
Recipient of numerous awards and honors, including “Artist of the Year 2013” presented by Colourentice and Tata Steel. In 2000, he was recognized as an Honorary Guest from India at the Salon International des Artistes in France.
Participated in more than 300 solo and group exhibitions in India and internationally. His works have been selected for numerous national and international juried exhibitions, including international watercolor exhibitions in Nepal and the United States.
Invited as a guest artist representing India at the Mtskheta International Art Event “Paint for Georgia” (Georgia, 2016), where he participated in exhibitions, workshops, and artist residency programs.
Published several art books through established publishing houses and participated in numerous workshops, fairs, auctions, and cultural events throughout his career.
His works are held in private collections in India and internationally.
