Born in 1933 in Kursk, USSR (now Russia). Studied at the Yelets Art School (1949–1957), with a break for military service (1952–1956). He trained under Andrei Kurnakov, Berta Giller, and Valentin Dudchenko, and later worked under the mentorship of National Artist of the USSR Nikolai Zhukov in Moscow.
Lives in Kyiv, Ukraine since 1980, and is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Since 2022, he has been living in Israel.
German Gold developed a highly individual figurative style characterized by expressive color and strong emotional impact. From an early age, he demonstrated exceptional artistic and literary sensitivity, which shaped his lifelong approach to painting.
Since the late 1950s, he has developed an extensive Jewish thematic cycle, exploring cultural memory, spirituality, and historical identity — from depictions of shtetl life to symbolic and biblical imagery.
His works are held in major museum collections, including the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyiv, the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art, the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine, the Sholem Aleichem Museum, and the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as in private collections across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Greece, and Israel.
Since the late 1950s, has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. His works have been featured in museum, institutional, and gallery exhibitions across Europe, the United States, and Israel.
