Born in 1953 in Stalingrad, USSR (now Volgograd, Russia). Studied at the Astrakhan Art College named after P. A. Vlasov (1973–1977). From 1988 to 1989, was a member of the Youth Association of the Union of Soviet Artists, and since 1989 has been a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
One of the leading painters of the Volgograd region, Mikhaylov is known for his thematic landscapes inspired by the history, traditions, and people of the Volga, Don, and Khoper regions. His work explores themes of regional identity, Cossack heritage, the natural beauty of the Russian countryside, and the historical memory of Stalingrad and Volgograd.
Throughout his career, he has created numerous acclaimed series, including Cossack Freemen, A Tale of the Khoper, Mother Volga, Father Don, and Tsaritsyn. He has also produced significant works dedicated to Orthodox churches and the cultural heritage of the Volgograd region.
Since 1977, has participated in all-Union, national, regional, and international exhibitions and has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout Russia, including in Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Volgograd, Uryupinsk, and Serafimovich.
His works are held in museum and private collections in Russia and internationally.
